About Timothy Phillips

I am a former teacher who has experience in a diverse setting of educational settings. I started out with and Alternative High School in Midland, Michigan, which seems to be such a long time ago. I cannot believe I was able to help with the development of building an airplane. In these early years, I was able to experience teaching, coaching, creating murals, with several groups of students, and being a part of a small family of people who were doing everything they could to offer a variety of experiences for their students. Following these early years in Midland, I moved to an alternative school in Fenton, MI, where I was once again a part of a strong group of teachers who were working through the daily challenges offered in the alternative classroom setting. After four years here, the school was closed and the staff were brought into different buildings within multiple districts. I spent the next 14 years as an art and social studies instructor with Fenton Schools. With this being a much larger staff, I did what I could to be a part of the growth within the district by diving into the International Baccalaureate Program, adapting to new ways of instruction, learning new programs well enough to be able to help others navigate through them, and building relationships with the staff. When I moved on to an Administrative position with Clare, I brought with me all of these past experiences and I am still learning. I am still growing and maturing. I appreciate these new experiences as well as my past experiences. Now, I am moving on from my role with Clare. Every person I have met… every challenge I have experienced, both alone and with others, I hope that I’ve left a good footprint. Perhaps the next adventure will be with me continuing the arts, finally publishing a book or a series of books, or just watching my own kids enter adulthood and enjoy the experiences of their own children, whenever that comes. I believe in the system of education. Some things need to change and we need to be a part of that change, instead of challenging it, but I am done with the world of education.
