About Timothy Richards

I am the Section Chief for Safety Programs, and have been involved in developing behavior change campaigns for the past 20 years. Marketing behavior changes to the public is not easy, but leading campaigns that have been critical in seeing reductions in traffic fatalities and injuries has been exceptionally rewarding. I have a variety of skills, including strategic marketing planning, integrated communications development, digital media management, design, and evaluating the effectiveness of marketing plans. I oversee five employees, and coordinate my organization's safety programs across Maryland. We manage an annual “portfolio” of more than $1.5 million dollars in at least nine campaigns at various stages of planning throughout the year. Staying organized means that I can generally prevent “crisis mode,” but I have learned to embrace challenges and use those experiences to learn and grow for the future. I like to try and have fun, even in stressful situations. I am a "natural teammate" who values input from friends, co-workers, customers, and vendors, using that feedback to developing effective action plans. One of the favorite aspects of my job is planning new approaches to reaching goals. The creative process is exciting and I love hearing the thought processes of others and creating brilliant ideas (and silly ones that are good for a few laughs). Some outside interests include soccer, CrossFit, home brewing, and playing bass guitar. I am a fast learner and I thrive in situations that allow me to use my creativity and solve problems.
