Background
About Timothy Roth
I am finding that delicate balance between work, school and home life. I have relocated to Canton, North Carolina where I am rehabbing a 1920s farmhouse.Nursing is a second career that I entered after two decades of working at The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa. I really enjoy being a nurse, working with patients, solving challenges, exploring options and providing education. I currently work as a staff nurse in the ICU at a smaller regional hospital. My experience as Case Manager on the STICU made me realize how much I enjoy bedside nursing. I am very grateful for my time in the Emergency Department as it laid the foundation for stretching, growing, learning. It is sometimes painful. Prior to the ER at Mission I worked as a night shift staff nurse at Asheville Detox Center. I enjoyed a short stint at Carolina Village as Quality Assurance and Infection Control administrative RN. The Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center was my first nursing job. I worked primarily on the rehabilitation inpatient unit where we hosted a 14 day stay for those exploring changes in regards to their use of drugs and alcohol. I also have experience working as an Intake nurse for the Detox Unit where I assisted in accepting referrals, interviewing potential patients, and conducting the intake process of those arriving for treatment.I am a student at The University of North Carolina at Wilmington obtaining my BSN. I am the founder and chairman of the S. Hayes Robinson Memorial Dance Scholarship that I started when my partner of eighteen years died in 2004. This fund awards an annual scholarship and is managed through the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. This is my best accomplishment so far as I have read essays and honored his memory for two decades.I am an avid gardener and photographer. I am in pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee. I am rediscovering Joseph Campbell, whom I discovered first at Berea College in the 1980s, and who has reemerged in the past years as a great influence. I am fascinated by history and science documentaries. As a child I wanted to be an Egyptologist. I had the pleasure of growing with The Grove Park Inn for over two decades. The financial collapse of 2008 led to a layoff after 22 years. I used the opportunity to return to school and study Human Services. That led me to work in the medical arena, which now leads me to here.I am reminded daily that the only constant is change.
