About Timothy Rydel
Tim Rydel was born and raised on the Northwest Side of Chicago. He went to college at the University of Chicago, earning an A.B. in Chemistry. Tim received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from Michigan State University, and a M.A. in Mathematics from The University of Missouri-St. Louis. For the past 25 years Tim has been a structural biologist at Monsanto-Bayer. Tim uses X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM microscopy to determine the 3-D structure of protein molecules of interest to Bayer with the goal of making them more efficacious in crop applications. Tim has been married to his wife for over 35 years and has two young adult children. He’s a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and Michigan State Football and Basketball. In his free time, he enjoys O-gauge model-railroading, reading, swimming, and teaching intro college level math classes at UMSL.
