I began my career as a second-grade teacher in Virginia and then taught fifth grade in Pennsylvania. I earned my Ph. D. in Social Studies Education at the University of Maryland at College Park and mentored seventh and eighth grade social studies teachers in the city of Baltimore. My publications appear in various top education research journals including Teacher Education Quarterly, Theory and Research in Social Education and Journal of Thought. I am one of the founding members of Education Deans for Justice and Equity. I am a radio and podcast host locally and nationally. I have appeared on numerous television news shows as an expert education policy analyst including MSNBC, CNN, Fox News. I served as the Dean of the School of Education at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin from 2013 to 2020. I see leadership as a function of empowerment around a transformative vision of excellence. Bold change cannot occur through top down administrative edicts. Instead, leaders articulate clearly and ignite a passion for innovation and service. We take responsibility and give away credit.
