Background
About Timothy Wiesner
I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada (pronounced like "Adam," thank you). When my older sister was going through the process of deciding to which colleges she would be applying, our mom brought the two of us to Boston to look at schools here. One of the schools we saw was Northeastern University, which we both really liked and ended up attending. I studied electrical engineering, and for much of my time in college I figured I'd end up going back west and working in Silicon Valley. By my senior year, however, I realized that my life was here. I looked for jobs designing analog circuits, and eventually took a position as a technician within the reliability lab at Analog Devices. I eventually did get a few opportunities to design some circuit boards, but I've found that process to be less rewarding than I'd expected - I am now much more interested in analyzing and addressing faults in PCBs than designing them. I have always loved building things (LEGO, Gunpla models, computers, etc.), but I now find that my interests for work have expanded to analytical and logistical projects. I love investigating problems with PCBs and other lab equipment and determining the points of failure and their solutions. I love interrogating procedures and investigating potential improvements. In my role as quality technician, I led the effort to implement a lean 6S inventory management methodology within the lab, which led to a significant boost in efficiency. I oversaw the primary operation of the High Voltage Endurance laboratory, transforming it from a side project to an efficient component of the quality group. I automated the collation of data for weekly reports, reducing the time spent on this by 75%. I believe in continuous improvement, both for myself and for my workspace. There are always opportunities to learn and grow, and there are always avenues for optimization. The two form a positive feedback loop. As we learn, we notice more optimizations we can implement. As we optimize, we become able to spend more time on the important tasks, which provides more opportunity for learning. This is the mindset I bring to everything now: How can I do this better?
