About Timothy Wootton

I have recently completed a chemistry PhD at Sheffield Hallam University, and I am seeking employment as a synthetic chemist. My thesis is titled: ‘Synthesis and drug development of small molecule inhibitors of PTP1B’ and was submitted on the 4th of December 2023. Viva passed with minor corrections on the 30/01/24. The main aim of this work was to discover new protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) specific inhibitors for the application as potential small molecule pharmaceuticals for type-2 diabetes treatment. This was a highly multidisciplinary project with computational, synthetic and biological parts, all of which fed into the overall aim of the work. With assistance from my supervisory team (Dr Daniel Allwood, Dr Nicola Aberdein and Dr Alessandra Princivalle), I was the primary contributor to all aspects of this project. In addition to my passion for interesting synthetic chemistry and its application, I also enjoy spending time in the country side on leisurely walks and hikes. As well as being an active participant of Bioscience and Chemistry PhD student social events.
