Background
About Tina Laffer
Mission-driven educator providing individualized services to those with visual impairments. An avid reader who frequently writes, too. 1k mile summer cycler who captures views of Boston that others miss. Stops to smell flowers. For the past 15 years, I have dedicated myself to supporting the growth, development, and independence for individuals with whom I was working. This extensive experience has allowed me to become an exceptional educator for both students and adults alike. I have envisioned, developed, created, and modified curricula and opportunities for learners of all ages and abilities. I have a clear understanding of assessment strategies, report writing, and conceptualizing next steps. I have continued my learning both formally and informally through reading, online engagement, and completing a second master’s; the art and humanistic approach towards leadership. My formal studies at The George Washington University allowed me to learn the importance of reflection and critical thinking, determine my leadership style, and my approach for organizational change. Not fully abandoning the first portion of my career, instead, I wish to enmesh my past with my future to help navigate the waters of diversity, equity, and inclusion. These uncharted territories for some, are familiar and exciting for me. Stitching together my passion for working with a population of individuals who are diverse, underrepresented, and overlooked with diversity in the workplace, gives me a unique advantage, perspective, and understanding of DEI. What is my WHY?(Sinek, 2017) To help others find their passion. To have an organization that is as diverse as its community so that it is inclusive, empathetic, and understanding. Filled with creativity and innovation. To be an advocate for all persons so that they feel welcome and accepted by their teams, so their authentic selves shine in all they do, promoting diverse, creative, and innovative thinking. To listen with a quiet heart and a soul that reflects so that I fully understand and recognize the talents and ingenuity a person possesses. Sinek. S, 2017, Find Your WHY.
