About Tine Brouckaert

I'm a diversity, inclusion & career development trainer & leadership coach at Ghent University, with over a decade of experience in higher education, research, and institutional policy. I focus on inclusive leadership, equal opportunities, and the support of underrepresented groups in academia and beyond. I hold a PhD in Comparative Sciences of Cultures, awarded magna cum laude, based on in-depth ethnographic fieldwork with undocumented mothers in Belgium and France. My dissertation (Accoucher la citoyenneté) explored how these women raise children while living without legal status. It received the Ann Huybens Prize and was later adapted into the social-artistic theatre production Be Home Before Dark. With a background in Social Cultural Work (BSc) and Social Policy (MSc), I bring both practical and academic perspectives to my work. My approach is grounded in a strong qualitative research tradition, with a continued attention to lived experience and structural inequality. At Ghent University, I develop and deliver training on topics such as gender and ethnic diversity, career reflection, and adaptive leadership. As a coach, I support leaders in navigating complexity, fostering inclusion, and growing in self-awareness and resilience. I'm driven by the belief that institutions thrive when they create space for equity, belonging, and the full development of people and potential.
