About Tiruwork Girma Hailu

I am a Materials Scientist with an MSc and BSc in Materials Science and Engineering from Jimma Institute of Technology (JIT) and Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU). My research focuses on energy materials, particularly solar cells, battery technologies, nanomaterials, and electrochemical devices. Key Highlights: Research Focus: Expertise in the synthesis and characterization of advanced materials for energy conversion and storage, including my Master’s thesis on Graphite-Doped Zinc Oxide (G/ZnO) hybrid photoanodes for solar cell applications. Technical Experience: Proficient in hydrothermal synthesis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM, and TGA for materials analysis and solar cell development. Academic & Teaching Role: Lecturer at JIT, teaching electrochemistry, materials for energy, and surface coating technology, while supervising senior projects and community-based research. Industry Exposure: Hands-on experience with advanced materials characterization instruments at JIT and the Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE), supporting quality assurance in materials testing. Global Engagement: Participated in international workshops, including the Materials for Sustainable Energy research school at the University of Nairobi and Advanced Materials Characterization at the University of Illinois, broadening my global research perspective. Vision: Passionate about advancing sustainable energy materials through international collaborations. I aim to drive innovation in solar energy and energy storage while mentoring the next generation of scientists. With a strong background in materials synthesis, photovoltaic device fabrication, and research leadership, I am equipped to contribute to cutting-edge academic and industrial advancements in energy materials.
