About Toby Mickelson

My private practice consists of students, grades 4-college, who encounter difficulties in learning. We work on skill development and delve into what is often referred to as "executive functioning". The process of learning to learn is as unique as a fingerprint. Untying "dislikes and I can't do that" is the first step into the neurology of true learning. Both in my private practice and at Redwood Day School, I create Learning Plans. Through consultation with parents and the student's evaluator, these documents become an operative summary of how a child learns and appears in the classroom. It includes accommodations which are tailored to the student's cognitive profile and the demands of the school or subject. By synthesizing reports, teachers have a clear, immediate, useful guide for teaching. This also allows for better communication between parents, student and teachers.
