Background
About Todd Klein
During my PhD program at the University of Minnesota, I was immersed in the science and engineering of magnetic materials and spintronic devices with a heavy emphasis on thin films and microfabrication. I worked closely with several other PhD students in designing, simulating, fabricating, and testing new concepts related to magnetic biosensors. My effort was focused on maximizing magnetostatic interaction between magnetic nanoparticles and sensors, understanding the inherent nonuniformities in the system, and consequent design optimization during fabrication of GMR biosensors. In addition, I contributed to the miniaturization of the GMR biosensing system and worked with professors in the medical school to address a variety of applications and meet their assay specifications. This work culminated in the Distinguished Award at the Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE competition and concurrent founding of Zepto Life Technology, LLC in 2014 where we are working to commercialize a point-of-care GMR biosensing platform.
