About Todd MacQueen

Every position I’ve had in Cybersecurity and IT, I’ve been told I have a rare blend of technical capabilities and good customer service. I am intrigued by solving complex technical problems whether fixing a system that is broken or implementing a future solution. I love sharing knowledge, writing "how-to's," and helping others with work related tasks. For me, working in CS and IT is like a hand in a glove – it just fits. One of my favorite accomplishments was at the start of my IT career. The first job I had was with a private nonprofit school where I was the only full-time IT person. They wanted to have a student BYOD program in grades 7-12 in addition to school-owned devices available at all grades. The school’s infrastructure was very outdated, and I had a total annual budget of Two years later, we launched the program and were the second school in the State of Idaho to have a student BYOD program. • During the process I didn’t use any contracted help because there was no money for it. • I pulled several miles of new cabling. • I created training for students and parents and held evening meetings for parents to come and ask questions. • I met individually with parents who were concerned about their kids being online and how we could protect them. • I trained the teachers on how to leverage technology. • The BYOD program continues to run full steam ahead to this day. Another accomplishment I had was handling ransomware attacks at an organization I worked for. We had about 4 attacks in 5 weeks. Using the skills I learned in digital forensics, I identified the attacks and recovered from them with no downtime and no expense to the company. Of course, I also improved our defenses which made us more resilient. I see life as having 3 components: 1) My job. I meet my needs by doing what I love. 2) My service. This is what I do to help others and has personal meaning. 3) My personal/family life. This is where I am safest and can recharge. The more alignment there is in those three areas, the more enjoyable life is. Obviously, I move in and out of each from time to time, but I am the best person when those are in balance.
