About Tolya Thompson

Science has always been a first love for me. With the gift of a microscope, my mom fostered my learning for the sciences. With bedtime reads featuring Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein she brought out a joy for reading and writing. I was destined to become an author and a scientist. I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Pre-Med Biology from Southern University, moved to New York and attended Cornell University Medical School’s Physician Assistant Program. After receiving my board certifications in medicine and surgery I interned at Ms. Magazine and the literary world just opened up to me. The entire experience empowered me to write my first book in the Smarties Book series, Loud Lips Lucy. Following titles include, Worry Wart Wes, Ingrown Tyrone, Catchin’ Cooties Consuelo, Busy Body Bonita, Wheezing Winona Weatherby and Breathless Bethany Buttercup. Now my inspiration comes from the thrills and chills of the emergency room. The Fabulous Me series is my newest book series that reflects the dynamics of this world. Fabulous Me gives a sneak peek into the ER where the reader will develop an understanding of how the ER works, learn about certain illnesses that are commonly seen in the ER, and receive special pearls – tips on how to keep you and your family healthy, FABULOUS and ER free. Much of my success is a direct result of the partnerships with numerous corporations and organizations over the years, including, but not limited to Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers Association, American Lung Association California, Sanofi Aventis, Schering Plough, Roche Pharmaceuticals and the Harlem Children's Zone. I have also worked extensively with departments of health and education all across the country to help increase literacy and decrease poor health.
