About Tom Amick

Forty four years of experience in non-profit management and working with Intellectually/Developmentally disabled adults. My work experience includes management of sheltered workshops, vocational placement and support, as a Unit Director at Fernald State School in Waltham, MA, Minuteman Association for Retarded Citizens in Concord, MA, and currently as the CEO of Life-Skills, Inc, in Webster, MA. I have been successful in writing numerous grants and proposals to benefit the companies and handicapped individuals with whom I have been associated. Under my guidance Life-Skills, Inc, has expanded it's day, vocational and residential programs. We have opened thrift stores, consignment stores, that serve as social enterprises to support the communities surrounding these stores and to offer training and employment opportunities to individuals from out employment programs. We also operate, Lawn Care service, a ceramics studio, a Cookie Business "The Big Fat Cookie", a bakery in our Take 2 consignment store in Webster, and a seasonal greenhouse operation "Best Buds". The corporation has grown over the last 30 years from a corporation supporting fewer that 125 individuals and 60 staff to with a budget of approximately $1.4 million to a corporation supporting 325 individuals with approximately 400 full and part time staff with an annual budget of approximately $16.5 million. Our logo phrase is "Building a Brighter Future", we have succeeded in following that vision, the brighter future has included both staff and individuals. As we move forward we will adding to our expertise in services for individuals on the Autism Spectrum as well as individuals with Acquired Brain Injury in both day and residential services.
