About Tom Bond

My role as a Graduate Environmental Consultant supports the Environmental Consents and Engagement (ECE) team within Assystem, contributing to the delivery of sustainable infrastructure solutions. Through ongoing training and shadowing, I aim to gain hands-on experience in environmental assessments, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance, with the goal of advising clients on environmentally responsible development and construction practices. I received my Environmental Science BSc in June 2024, with additional recognition for my placement year at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). My bachelors degree highlighted environmental regulation and redress, introduced me to environmental legislation, and sparked my interest in consultancy. During my placement at BAS, my independent research centered on analysing total diatom abundance in the Ferrigno ice core extracted from the West Antarctic Peninsula, with the aim of cementing the preliminary study of diatom concentration as a proxy for Southern Ocean wind speeds. My time here focused on independent research, primarily enhancing time management, perseverance, and problem-solving skills within a professional environment. From both my bachelors degree and my placement year I have developed a keen interest in polar climates and palaeoclimatology, looking in detail at global atmospheric and oceanic currents and their interactions.
