About Tom Buchanan

I am a fast learner and keep a commitment to high standards. I am always trying to perform my best and try to encourage the same out of those around me. While I tend to strive for personal perfection, this is a fault I try to reign in and one that I try not to push on others. I like to see people for who they are and tend to get along with most people. I believe that we do our best work when we are comfortable and can enjoy what we are doing; whether it is giving a customer/client the best experience or having to clean a restroom. I am a lifelong learner and do not give up easily. I enjoy serving my family, friends and community. I have excellent customer service skills and a talent for conflict mitigation and human resources. I am at my best working on problems that take time and patience. I also generally work well under pressure. I would like to return to working in administrative or management type fields where I seem to excel. I have had previous administrative experience as, an assistant manager in fast food and as a firearms assembly/repair manager. I was also previously the owner/manager, of Bitterroot Tractors, a tractor parts supply and service shop that I took over when my employer retired. In the past I have also enjoyed volunteering for my church. I served approximately 4 years as an executive secretary to our congregation’s pastor. I handled much of the administration for our congregation so that the pastor could focus on service to the members and our community. Later, I served in a regional capacity over multiple congregations of my church. I held the position for 5 years as assistant Stake clerk over Technology (aka Technology Specialist), responsible over IT for the Bitterroot Valley. I have a knack for adapting to new technology and quickly solving problems when it doesn't work. As Technology Specialist, I oversaw the equipment, software, training and IT work, of all Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint congregations and buildings in the Bitterroot; 7 congregations, 5 buildings, 2 community Family History Centers & 2 congregational Family History Centers. Although not currently enrolled, I do occasionally go to school, when time and circumstances allow. While I can be uptight and shy, I love working with people and creating new relationships. My fondness for learning and helping people is from a desire to make each day a little better for myself and those around me. I really enjoy being part of a team and sharing in life's experiences whether at home, at work or at play.
