About Tom Buscaglia

Tom Buscaglia, the Game Attorney, with offices in the Seattle, Washington, area. Tom is a principal in the law firm The Game Attorney PC. He has practiced in Federal Trial and Appellate Courts, including the US Supreme Court. Tom obtained his Law degree, with honors, from Georgetown in 1985, and holds a B.A. in Philosophy from S.U.N.Y, Buffalo, with honors. Since 1991, Tom has assisted over 200 independent game developers in all aspects of business and legal matters. Tom sat on the Board of Directors of the International Game Developers Association serving as its Chair, Vice Chair and treasurer, Founded and Chaired the IGDA charitable Foundation and headed the IGDA Seattle Chapter. Tom wrote the chapter entitled “Effective Developer Agreements” for the book, The Secrets of the Game Business. He has written numerous articles, including the Game Law series of articles and am Expert Blog on Gamasutra.com, and frequently speaks on the game industry business and legal matters. He is the only outside attorney ever invited to speak at the Steam Dev Days, is a perennial presenter at the Game Developers Conference and speaks o the Simulation and Modeling industry on the value of Game technologies for beneficial applications outside of the entertainment sector. Committed to helping independent game developers get the right start in business, Tom frequently speaks on matters that people starting out should and should not do in order to have a solid business foundation for their studios. He released a start up developer’s business and legal kit with information and forms for start up developer needs. As FaTe[F8S] Tom is a founder and Supreme Warlord of FaTe’s Minions, an online gaming "clan" that has been competing in various online competitions since January, 1998.
