About Tom Campbell

I've been teaching Math for 36+ years, first under my mentor, Barr McCutcheon, at Francis Parker, and for the last 33+ years at Waynflete, an independent school in Portland, ME. In my time here, I have held a number of roles, including Math Department Chair (1990-98), member of the Academic Policy Committee, Senior Class Grade Advising team leader, Scheduling Co-ordinator, 6-12 Substitute Teacher Coordinator and Graduation Supervisor. In 2009-2012 I was Dean of Faculty, as well as serving on several administrative search committees and Board of Trustees sub-committees. I was a member of the Search Committee which recommended Geoff Wagg to be our new Head of School in 2012. While I enjoy almost all of what I do, classroom work (especially in Geometry) is a particular love. In July of 2018 I took on a more administrative role as Dean of Educational Operations. These new responsibilities mean less time in the classroom, but they allow me to have a more direct impact on how the school enables and empowers faculty and students to make learning happen. I have written five books, all published by J. Weston Walch. These are teacher support texts, providing activity sheets for students to practice concepts and/or their uses in "real-life"​. I have also consulted on a number of other texts with J. Weston Walch, Everyday Learning, and with Mr. McCutcheon on his ultimate book,"Urns, Dice and Polyominoes." I am active at Woodfords Congregational Church, serving in 2013-14 as Moderator of the Council of Ministries. I am currently a member of the Diaconate. My skill set of detail management, clear explanation, systems design, and relating with people allows me to remain interested in the organizations of which I am a member, and to improve the quality of the life experience of others.
