About Tom Early

I am partner in Kirkland & Ellis’ Registered Funds Group. I have extensive experience in matters related to open-end and closed-end registered investment companies. My practice focuses on counseling independent directors of mutual funds and interfacing with regulatory authorities on a variety of complex legal and regulatory matters. Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, I practiced at another AmLaw 100 firm, with an emphasis on the representation of independent boards of registered investment companies. Previous to that and commencing in 1998, I was Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and Secretary of Janus Capital Group. I supervised regulatory matters related to Janus’ domestic and international business, with particular emphasis on mutual fund issues. Prior to joining Janus, I was the chief legal officer of Prudential Investments Fund Management LLC, a subsidiary of The Prudential Insurance Company of America. In this role, I was responsible for legal matters involving Prudential’s domestic and offshore mutual funds. Immediately prior to that role, from 1994 to 1997, I was chief legal officer of Prudential Retirement Services, a business unit of Prudential which provided a full range of retirement services to qualified pension plans. Prior to 1994, I held senior attorney positions at Frank Russell Company, a global consulting and investment management firm, and Federated Investors, Inc, a major mutual fund complex. I began my legal career at a well-known Cleveland law firm. I am admitted to practice in California, the District of Columbia and Ohio.
