About Tom Elicson

Over the past 30 years, I have worked as a nuclear engineer and consultant in the field of nuclear safety focusing on software development and simulation, severe accident analysis, MAAP computer program applications and training, Fire PRA, and business development.Throughout my career, I have delivered innovative, first-of-a-kind solutions to the nuclear industry to improve plant safety. My contributions include:• First-of-a-kind coupling of MAAP4 and MAAP5 containment models to a full scope plant simulator• Implementation of numerical solutions for Xtreme Flow gas flow models• Development of first-of-a-kind methods for multi-unit core melt accident analysis using MAAP4 and MAAP5 as part of post-Fukushima response• First-of-a-kind development of a multi-unit severe accident desktop simulator for CANDU plant analysis• Implementation of Russian-style VVER reactor models into the MAAP5 computer program• Development of numerous training courses, including creation of a first-of-a-kind computer-based MAAP training course for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)• Development of methods to use CFAST coupled with Monte Carlo models to determine fire severity factors and component failure times to support the Idaho National Lab Advanced Test Reactor Fire PRA• Development of a prototype accident predictor system to track and predict plant state in real time during plant accidents• Development of two-phase transient pipe flow program for analysis of water hammer and motor-operated valve performance to support response to Generic Letters 96-06 and 89-10My career has also emphasized business development with performance measured against a sales quota. During a 10 year period, I was primarily responsible for development of new clients and new business opportunities. Business development activities included meeting business development goals, creating and executing marketing plans, tracking sales metrics, seeking out new clients, expanding client network, participating in trade shows, and proposal writing. Over that 10 year period I had continuous sales growth and exceeded sales goals.
