About Tom Gunn
A visionary that gets things done. Tom has a skill in listening to people and leading the planning to make things happen. The co-founder of L’Arche Cape Breton and co-founder of Mawita’mk Society, Tom has been active in social justice and community development his whole life. Tom has also led the revitalization of organizations that were struggling including the ROC Society and Asha Niketan Kottiwakkam in India. As an NSCC Principal he grew enrollment at the Strait Area Campus and added a new fire school, new student housing, a new Ocean center and new programming. As a volunteer committed to servant leadership, Tom collaborated with government and community to get a new P-8 School in Whycocomagh, and build new homes, apartments and day programs for persons with disabilities in Port Hawkesbury, We’koqma’q, Orangedale, Mabou, Iron Mines and Kottiwakkam. Retired from NSCC in 2023, Tom remains active in strategic planning and community development.
