Here’s how I ended up in the sports wagering industry: The summer I turned 8 years old, my parents sold our house, bought an RV and decided we would live on the road for a while. We left our home in New Jersey and set out to see what there was to see of our country. As a kid, I thought it was great―new friends and a different swimming pool most every night―seeing so many cool and strange things along the way, including the biggest ball of twine in Kansas, The Thing in Arizona, and so many more. What exactly is a Jackalope? We stayed in Tucson the next school year, while Dad managed the trailer park. We were back on the road the following summer as there was still plenty more to see. As September drew near, Mom and Dad drove on to Las Vegas, where they enrolled my brother and me in school. We stayed. Those summers taught me two important lessons: 1. that borders are merely a construct. There are always new places to visit and new people to meet. that leaving the comfort of the familiar, while at times scary, creates new possibilities that were previously unimaginable. The lessons from my childhood adventures have given me the confidence to try new things, to think outside the box, and to feel comfortable with uncertainty. My first job was in a casino. Eventually I managed the only graveyard shift sportsbook in town. Everybody came to see me after they got off their shifts at the casinos. I grew to love the sports, to care about the teams, the players, and the fans. Years later, I’m still here! I have managed teams that installed and serviced betting systems. I honed my skills as a software engineer and spent time developing and managing large customer accounts. I have worked with C-level executives and regulators in the sports wagering industry all over the country. I see tremendous opportunity for this industry, and I’m still excited to be a part of it!
