About Tom Kovac

Tom Kovac is a Professor of Architecture at RMIT University and Deputy Director of the (SLWC) Sir Lawrence Wackett Defence & Aerospace Centre RMIT. Previously he was Visiting Professor at IoA Die Angewandte Urban Strategies, Vienna, Studio director at SCI-Arc, Los Angeles and Director of Alessi Airspace Architectural Association, London. Kovac has lectured and exhibited in Europe, Asia, Japan, United States and has directed the Alessi SpA, Alessi Mutants program with Reiner Zettl and Patrik Schumacher at Urban Strategies IoA Die Angewandte, Vienna and the Architectural Association London. Kovac has participated in the Venice International Architecture Biennale exhibitions, The Milan Triennale, Beijing Architecture Biennial, ZKM, Karlsruhe, Mori Museum, Tokyo, The London Biennale and Ars Electronica Linz Austria. Kovac was the Architecture Director of the 2012 European Capital of Culture and Curator of the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale Slovenian Pavilion. Most recently he was Artistic Director for the Malaysia Biennial 2017, Director of SuperCity at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale 2018 and Director CITYX Xiong’an, China and SuperCity to be exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2021. Tom Kovac’s Monograph No 50 has been published by Wiley UK and his projects are included in the permanent collections of the FRAC Centre Orleans, The American Library of Congress, Washington, The Alessi Museum Omegna, Italy and The Centre Pompidou, Paris France.
