About Tom Kurtz

My earliest employment in a school based treatment program influenced me in the family systems field and subsequently I pursued a graduate degree and licensing as a Marriage and Family Therapist. During graduate school, I worked as a mental health technician in a psychiatric hospital. I was fortunate for excellent supervision while working on my license to receive training in forensic evaluation and treatment which led to credentials through Colorado for evaluating and treating juveniles and adults who were in the legal system for sexual offenses. Through my career I have held an interest in trauma informed therapy and treating anxiety disorders through neurological-processing. I’ve owned and operated a private practice under the name of Colorado Counseling & Consulting Services for the past 30 years. With a few partners we have successful operated a community clinic with a very diversified clientele in crisis care, critical incident response, trauma-informed treatment, attachment disorders, and neuro-processing therapy approaches to anxiety based disorders. Drawing off experience as a clinical supervisor for an adolescent residential treatment facility and numerous opportunities through my agency to supervised therapists-in-training, I continue to enjoy supervising graduate level clinicians in Colorado who are seeking a professional license or who are credentialing in forensic counseling and evaluations. Collaboratively, I have created and directed a highly regarded treatment program in our community for over two decades that has coordinated with other professionals, including the Courts, Prosecutors, DHS/DFS, CPS, Probation, and other adjunct treatment services. Working with other professionals, and now especially in training other clinicians has been enjoyable to me as I pass the torch, so to speak, in the ever growing and evolving field of psychology and neurobiology. In 2022 I cross trained and began working with an internet based company, NOCD, as a Clinical Therapist providing highly personalized treatment for people suffering with severe anxiety syndromes including OCD, and related disorders. As my vocational interests grow, I continue to apply my professional knowledge and therapeutic skills in private practice with a variety of clinical populations.
