For more than a decade, I’ve developed 2 nonprofits while owning and operating 2 small businesses. Different entities with varied skills: maybe a little confusing at first, but it all comes together through a shared purpose- Building Resiliency into Traditional Communities. Combined, these groups receive grants and revenue of $2m annually in order to develop programs; repair buildings; operate co-working space; improve the environment; write grant applications, and support small businesses. We provide budgeting, construction management, counseling, economic development and grant administration. The newest nonprofit, Common Resilience Partners, is focused on community resiliency through an emerging approach to placemaking. Over my career, I’ve raised and managed $25m for clients including small towns, urban neighborhoods and government agencies. I’m still friendly with many of our clients, which I consider a sign of success.
