About Tom Mitcham

I am a Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol and a member of CPOM, through which I contribute to the UK's national capability in ice sheet modelling and to the UKESM's TerraFIRMA project, exploring the potential for rapid changes and tipping points in the dynamics of the Earth's ice sheets. My wider research interests are in the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets more generally and in particular the processes controlling the fracture of ice shelves. I use numerical ice sheet models and remote sensing datasets to explore these processes. I'm also interested in using numerical and statistical modelling to tackle problems across a wider range of fields and have a strong interest in the science-policy interface, with experience working in a parliamentary research team in the Senedd/Welsh Parliament.
