About Tom Ray

Thomas Ray is currently retired. He specialized in commercial and retail litigation and defense of FDCPA actions. The primary client base included major corporations, financial institutions and debt buyers. Tom was a charter member and First VP of the California Creditors Bar Association serving as a member of the Judiciary Coordination Committee. He was instrumental in educating presiding judges on Cal. Rule of Court Section 3.740 significantly reducing court hearings in collection cases and saving the courts over $200 million a year. He is a longtime member of the National Association of Retail Creditors and speaker for the program “Ethical Issues in our Collection Practices: Where Professional Rules Conflict with the Realities of the Collection Process” at NARCA’s Spring Conference in May, 2011. Tom was a panelist at the FTC 2007 Workshop on Debt Collection. He was President of the Golden Gate Business Association, and on a special committee of the California Judicial Counsel, a constitutional committee chaired by the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court working to formalize Rules of Court for better court efficiencies related to collection cases, default judgment procedures and court filing fees. Tom first entered the practice of law in Alabama in 1981 with a specialty of Criminal Defense and Commercial and Retail litigation. He moved to California in 1978 to specialize in professional errors and omissions defense, personal Injury and insurance coverage litigation. In Tom formed his own firm and expanded his practice to include commercial and retail litigation. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court for the Northern, Central, and Eastern and Districts of California, the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama.
