About Tom Shen

Tom has been working in Structural Engineering field for 11 years. Since working in a consulting environment, Tom has participated in diverse range of projects such as large commercial structures and small residential buildings. After gaining experiences in high rise structure design in Singapore, Tom moved back to Palmerston North New Zealand in year 2012, and finally Tom has settled down in Auckland in year 2013. He has been doing seismic design and assessment of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber structures. After joining Calibre Consulting, Tom has involved in many major projects as key engineer, he was also assigned as a project manager as well as a contract engineer at Auckland Council, he has involved in large structural design review and developed sound engineering assessment skills, he has managed people resources for council checking and inspection on behalf of Calibre Consulting and has been a respected project manager. After coming back to NZ, Tom has gained exposure to the seismic assessment of old buildings, primarily through site inspections and engineering design procedures outlined by New Zealand Society of Earthquake Engineering. Tom has been a lead structural engineer in most of the seismic assessment projects and has provided quality calculations and reports. Tom is a proficient user of modern 3D design software such as Etabs and Microstran.
