About Tom Smith

I am an experienced leader in land and property business environments with extensive knowledge of property and tenure issues and improved asset management practices, policies and systems. I have worked in regulated environments in government, GOC and private industry where legislative frameworks dictated strategies required for agreements and success. I have a good knowledge of relevant state legislation and local government regulations in relation to the management and utilisation of crown, GOC and public land and improved assets. I worked with Santos/GLNG for 5+ years as a land access/stakeholder professional from the initial project development through to near-completion. I've worked closely with the asset managers and project developers in Brisbane, and negotiated face-to-face with landholders in the GLNG fields and also NSW. I continued my involvement in Queensland's CSG industry with QGC, as a Land Access Adviser. As a Team Manager Land Access and Power within Telstra, I continued my professional association with the infrastructure industry. Diversifying into telecommunications was a comfortable transition. A role in the APA Group as land Access Lead allowed me to develop my knowledge over a number of significant pipeline projects in both NSW and Victoria. Recognised by management, peers and staff as a fair, honest, courteous and loyal member of a team, I am prepared to work hard, think analytically about problems, persist and be tenacious in seeking resolution. I regard myself as a solid and consistent manager, grounded in an understanding of modern management practices and procedures. As a senior member of management teams, I am also familiar with and practised in corporate business planning, organisational design and development (quality, change management, continuous improvement). My professional career has always been ‘externally-facing’, with personal exposure to regulators and government, members of the public, politicians, developers and ‘customers’.
