Background
About Tom Stacy
I've enjoyed a few aspects of my career the most, including learning new technologies, mentoring junior team members, determining customer needs & planning to maximize efforts to satisfy them, and testing & evaluating products while providing effective feedback. Knowing that I've gotten so much personal satisfaction from these roles, I aim to progress my career with continued growth in these areas. After taking Advanced Placement Art classes in High School I was a Scout in the Army for 7 years, often creating artwork to represent units that I was assigned to. I also led Recon teams, operated an Arms Room for a company of 300+ soldiers, and my attention to detail and clear & concise visual skills were utilized as I prepared battle maps for Brigade-level operations. As a civilian CAD technician editing topo maps, I used my ability to master new technical tasks to run a B&W darkroom, work on a survey crew, and operate an aerial camera. Most of my career has been as a Graphic Artist/3D Modeler for companies that develop simulation & training systems. Working in that industry for over 20 years at 4 different companies, I've utilized my skills in a variety of tasks, primarily modeling and texturing 3D terrain, buildings, vehicles, aircraft & people. I've also produced 2D projects including GUIs, logos, marketing materials, multimedia courseware, 2D animations, video editing, sound effects and music production. I spent a year teaching college classes in Video Game Design & Graphic Design at night. After a layoff from simulator work, I taught full-time for 2 more years before returning to the Simulation Industry. Another layoff sent me on my way across the country to take a break from it all, living and working at a remote off-grid Retreat in the Cascade Mountains. I moved to Seattle where I worked for Google Maps for 2 years, editing map data and QC'ing the work of my Team. I'm currently back in the Simulation industry, working on 3D Visual Databases.
