About Tom Tracy

I am returning to teaching math this fall - at the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences, the new public charter school located at the Good Will-Hinckley site near Waterville. The program is designed to provide an alternative to their local high school program for students who seek a more hands-on education. I'm looking forward to incorporating a wide range of real world problems and projects and to developing a program that prepares these students for careers and life beyond schooling. I plan to maintain Navigating the Real World, with help from students and teachers there. In 2008 I started and built up Navigating the Real World, Inc, a Maine-based nonprofit publisher that helps people in their teens become better informed about the post schooling world, and make better decisions and post secondary plans that improve long term prospects. We publish in print editions for Maine teens and also for the Parents of middle and high school students. And our web site, has more than video interview segments of people - in their 20s, of employers, of parents and of various experts - that have experiences that are valuable for teens to hear. Specialties: Experienced entrepreneur. Have started and managed publishing, multimedia and Web based companies. Experience working with high school students and children at risk. Heavily involved in many aspects of starting Friends School of Portland. Education reform that will better prepare students for the post schooling world and the evolving economy.
