Background
About Tom Winslow
Biography of Thomas Perry Winslow Thomas Perry Winslow, born on October 30, 1942, in Washington, DC, spent his formative years on a dairy farm in Troutman, North Carolina. Engaged in daily farm chores, he developed a strong work ethic early in life. A graduate of Troutman High School, he continued his education at Wake Forest College for two years before earning a degree in Manufacturing and Production Technology from Gaston Technical Institute, which was then a division of NC State College but is now known as Gaston College. Post-graduation in 1965, Thomas lived in Harrisonburg and Dayton, Virginia, until 1969, when he returned to his roots in North Carolina. Back in his hometown, he embarked on a career as an industrial engineer in Statesville. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase a 25-acre farm in Troutman, where he built his home. Additionally, he invested in real estate, acquiring seven rental properties in Troutman and Mooresville. In 1982, Thomas joined Prodelin Corporation in Newton, North Carolina, as the Manager of Quality Assurance. Here, he pioneered the installation of the company’s first local area network (LAN). His tenure at Prodelin was marked by adaptability and resilience, as he remained a steadfast employee through five buyouts, including one by General Dynamics. His commitment to education saw him teaching part-time at Mitchell College in Statesville, where he imparted knowledge in Industrial Maintenance and Information Technology. Thomas’s final professional chapter before retiring in 2022 was with CPI (Communications & Power Industries), concluding a remarkable 40-year journey with the same company since July 19, 1982. Beyond his professional endeavors, Thomas is an avid collector of rocks, minerals, coins, Native American artifacts, and folk pottery. His interests also extend to photography and local history. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys backpacking, hiking, and cycling. His passion for genealogy has spanned over half a century, and he actively engages on platforms like Ancestry.com. He also contributes to SmugMug.com, an amateur and professional photography site. In retirement, Thomas is channeling his extensive experience and interests into an online auction site, marking a new phase of innovation and entrepreneurship in his distinguished career.
