About Tomas Opazo

I am currently about to finish my PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Penn State. Before moving to the U.S. I completed my undergrad in Electrical Engineer at Universidad de Chile. My research focuses on control of overactuated aerial vehicles, performance of coaxial rotors and optimization. During my days at PennState I have gained experience on building, testing and flying experimental vehicle designs as well as running all our algorithms using available on-board equipment. That has been a great opportunity to learn about the wide range of topics necessary to fly, from aerodynamics to software implementation. I am passionate about open-source UAV technology and how new algorithms are making these vehicles more robust, efficient and autonomous. Personal website: toopazo.github.io Estoy terminando mi doctorado en Ing Aeroespacial en Penn State. Antes de viajar a EEUU me titulé de Ing. Eléctrico en la U. de Chile. He trabajado e investigado en robótica, control y optimización. En particular mi interés se centra en tecnología de UAV (vehículos aéreos no tripulado) y como nuevos algoritmos están permitiendo a estos vehículos ser más robustos, eficientes y autónomos. Todo esto tiene una fuerte conexión con el diseño de robots inspirados en la biología, y como niveles crecientes de movimiento y detección puede ayudar a estos vehículos a subir la escalera evolutiva hacia niveles de inteligencia y conciencia más avanzados.
