About Tomas Stankevicius

Children usually dream about being doctors, police officers, firemen. My story is the same, when I was a child, I dreamed of a career as a Member of Parliament or even the President. I didn’t hear that children want to become project managers. Now, at 38, I am Chief Project Management Officer in a bank. I have had a wonderful career until now, so let me tell you my fairy tale… After graduating with a master’s degree, I got a job in a telecommunications service provider. Gaining knowledge about the Quality Management System, ISO:9001, leading to a smooth implementation of the system, helped me to form a systematic approach which laid the foundations of successful project management for my future career. One rewarding stage of my career was replaced by another. Starting as Process Manager, I became the Head of Information System Division, then the Head of Business Management System Division. These experiences helped me develop the competencies required of a project manager. I built a team capable of achieving results and implementing a customer-oriented approach. Precise planning, leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills enabled the implementation of a range of excellent projects, such as CRM, portals for customer self-service and sales and a corporate website. I replaced this significant period in the telecommunications company with the position of Project Manager in a media services company. Working on the principles of Agile, including flexibility and creative thinking, allowed me and my team to implement projects in a timely way and to the highest quality, building the company’s first technologically proficient and user-friendly app which led to a marked increase in customer downloads. However, I felt that I could do more; I wanted to learn and to improve myself, so I found a company where I could develop as a specialist whilst helping to implement ambitious and interesting projects. The current stage of my career sees me working in a financial services institution. When I started working here, I realized how wide and varied the work of project management is, combined from endless challenges. Communication, leadership, planning, risk management, human resource management, critical thinking, task management, endless patience and even a sense of humor have helped achieve one of the biggest projects of my life - to build a bank. Yes I am not mistaken, I am one of the team members who created the bank in my role as project manager. I know that this fairy tale is not over for me and there are many projects which I will execute in the future.
