About Tomi Simula

My main interests are materials and reliability of electronics, but due to my highly inquisitive nature and diverse work experience I have insights into topics far beyond those simple labels. Much can be said about my personality by simply stating that I am an information lover. I am keenly interested in physics, chemistry, biology, geology and so on, everything that can help me better understand the world around us. My interest in sciences originally led me to study electronics, but true to color I have never limited myself to just that - I always dig a little deeper than is strictly necessary, as the interesting and/or important bits can rarely be found in places with easy access or along safe paths without ever straying. From my point of view, every single electrical gadget ever sold has been - and is still as its life cycle cannot have truly ended yet - a complex tangle of interesting but massively diverse topics such as geology, chemistry, electrical design, mechanical design, thermal design, raw physics, workflow management and bickering about costs. Each of them have also wrapped tendrils around biology, pondered on artistic points of view at least in passing and have been products of their surrounding human cultures. This satisfyingly complex network is the most important reason I have remained in the field despite it proving its vulnerability to changes in global economic patterns multiple times, even over my relatively fresh career. Another important reason are the people: I like working in teams and sharing and implementing ideas. The people working with electronics usually have plenty of great ideas which can be woven into the electron-infused fabric that forms the backbone and many tissues of the human societies of today.
