About Tomm Johnson

I’m Thomas C. Johnson known as Chef Tomm—a chef, educator, cookbook author, nonprofit leader, Army veteran, and lifelong culinary explorer. For over 30 years, I’ve followed my passion for food and education from the kitchens of Florence to the food stalls of Thailand to the classrooms of Connecticut. My culinary career began in a humble pizza shop and evolved into a global journey of flavor, technique, and teaching. Along the way, I’ve specialized in hand-pulled noodles, artisan breads, house-made cheeses, and the stories behind the food we love. After serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, I returned to the kitchen with a mission: to teach, mentor, and build something meaningful. Since 2013, I’ve proudly led the development of a nationally recognized culinary arts program in New London, CT—transforming it into a hub of skill, opportunity, and innovation for young chefs. In 2020, I founded Whalers Helping Whalers, a grassroots nonprofit that has distributed over 1.3 million pounds of food to families in need. That work has been honored with the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award and Special Congressional Recognition. As a cookbook author, I’m passionate about preserving culinary traditions and passing them on with heart, humor, and practical skill. My cookbooks reflect a lifetime of experience and are designed to educate and inspire—from high school kitchens to home cooks around the world. I’m also the host of Chef Tomm (1.4M+ views), and founder of Culinary Secrets, a veteran-owned brand of artisan oils and salts. Whether in front of a classroom, camera, or cutting board, I aim to share more than recipes—I share culture, craft, and connection. Above all, I’m a proud husband, father, and dog dad. My greatest joys come from sharing meals—and moments—with those I love.
