Background

About Ton van der Ham

In his journalistic work Ton focuses on unveiling and analysing systemic issues and catch reality in a visually appealing and story-based way. His inquiries led to important scoops and prestigious awards and nominations. He has been researching the consequences of intensive farming for more than 15 years. For example, he has exposed how poorly citizens are protected against the risks of pesticides. His research into the failing government policy to combat the Q fever epidemic was awarded the most important journalistic prize in the Netherlands. For his award-winning documentary about poor hospital hygiene, he went undercover as a cleaner. Because of his disclosure of a culture of fear amongst medical professionals, he was nominated for 'Journalist of the year 2016'. Other (international) nominations include e.g. documentaries about the 'Monsanto Method' and shadowy financial constructions of the Dutch royal family. In 2013, together with Manon Blaas he wrote a book about the way in which occupational health and safety companies prey on sick employees.
