About Toni King

Dr. Toni C. King is an Associate Professor of Black Studies and Women's Studies at Denison University. She has earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oklahoma State University, a Master’s degree in Counseling from The Ohio State University and a doctorate in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. King teaches courses in Black Studies, women’s studies and research methods as well as a course on Black Women and Organizational Leadership. Her work is widely published in journals and books. Her co-edited book: Black Womanist Leadership: Tracing the Motherline (co-edited with Dr. S. Alease Ferguson, SUNY Press, 2011) is a capstone contribution to women’s leadership theory. An overarching theme of King’s work is support and empowerment of women of color, and marginalized groups who seek to both thrive and transform society from within organizations, families, and communities. She specializes in designing and conducting workshops and seminars on: diversity and anti-racism in higher education, career development for academics of color, and women’s leadership. She uses organizational play, social justice theatre, creative writing and other experiential and contemplative methods to create environments of deep learning.
