I retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as a training strategist in the Office of Informatics and Analytics on January 2, 2013. My primary responsibility was project lead for developing VA eHealth University’s (VeHU) web-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) learning environment, MyVeHU Campus. Before this role, I worked as an Informatics Patient Safety Analyst with VA staff and development team members on safety issues related to EHR software. I have worked in healthcare informatics for > 15 years and also served as a Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), Informatics Coordinator, and system manager for a Surgical Intensive Care (SICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) documentation/charting system. I have 34 years of healthcare experience as a registered nurse. During my career, I’ve cared for patients with diverse health issues in medical-surgical units, CCU, SICU, gastroenterology, spinal cord injury outpatient clinic, outpatient specialty clinics, pediatrics, and labor and delivery. I am passionate about the patient and customer experience, employee education and training, patient safety, and authentic leadership.
