About Tonisha Via

I have worked in the field of higher education well over eight years in all different capacities from Student Success Specialist, Academic Advisor, Counselor, Adjunct Faculty to Human Resources - Employee and Labor Relations. A great portion of my career has been in Higher Education from For Profit to the Community College. With over 10 years of experience in counseling, career development and academic advising, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in higher education. My teaching philosophy centers around fostering critical thinking, promoting intellectual curiosity, and cultivating a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. I am committed to creating engaging classroom experiences that encourage active student participation and facilitate deep learning. Within these many years of service, I have gained experience with executives, administrators, unions, advising students, working with and supporting faculty, curriculum design, managing budgets and assisting with degree completion programs. My main focus is to provide service to all from the top down within the organization. I my goal in my work is to provide a nurturing, safe and inclusive work environment. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and student success. I have a proven track record of effectively delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, and designing course materials that align with the needs and goals of the students. I strive to create an inclusive environment that embraces diversity and encourages students from all backgrounds to contribute their unique perspectives. Through the course of my career I've became comfortable with but not limited to systems such as Oracle, Colleague, Ellucian, Web now/Image now, and proficient Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel.
