About Tony Halkyard

An enthusiastic and passionate academic committed to delivering high quality teaching and research, particularly within the field of sport management. My aspirations are to seek new opportunities and challenges within academia; to undertake research to enhance knowledge; to embrace inclusivity, diversity, cross-cultural collaboration and internationalisation; and to teach, mentor and guide students at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level, to transform lives and help inspire them to achieve their own aspirations and thereby contribute to the students’ employability potential. This has led to my recent leadership role as Undergraduate Course Director at Coventry University, and a teaching and excellence award.I have a PhD in Sport Management and Policy and a Master’s degree in Sport Management, both from Loughborough University. My doctoral thesis, under the supervision of Professor Barrie Houlihan, focused on the extent to which community sport policy has impacted on the operational activities of small to mid-sized NGBs of Olympic sports, the strategies used by them to adapt to changes in policy, the changing nature of their relationship with government and governmental agencies, and their role in sport policy, which have seldom been addressed directly in academic literature. I have attained a high-level of teaching experience both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as seen from the academic positions I have held, and have worked alongside high-caliber academics and experts in the field of sport management, development and policy, within a variety of sports-related degrees. I have also completed a PG cert in High Education with distinction and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Furthermore, I have substantial managerial experience within industry having served as a senior director for over 20 years for a SME providing specialist engineering services to the sport, hospitality, leisure, foodservice, health and educational sectors, with particular expertise in operational management, financial management, HR management, relationship management, and business development.
