About Tony Johnstone

Hello all I am currently the owner/operator of Knife Edge Aerobatics initially started in Winfield, KS. We are in our 20thyear of business specializing in aerobatic and tailwheel instruction. I also do multiengine instruction in a Twin Comanche. My "day job" alter ego was as a general surgeon, in practice for 30 years. Retired from surgery in June 2014, worked as a pilot at Textron Aviation until Nov 2015, retired again to help with growing brood of grandkids in the NE US. As of May 2018 we have moved to Florida, just in process of relocating my trusty N97LK to Clearwater to begin tailwheel and aerobatic instruction affiliated with Tampa Bay Aviation. Now, 3 years later, instructing about 180 hours/year, having fun, and teaching a LOT of prospective CFIs about aerodynamics of stall/spin issues. My philosophy in both fields has always been safety and professionalism first. I actively participate in the FAAs safety programs as a FAASTeam member and presenter, also have given seminars on aerobatic instruction and stick-and -rudder skills at Oshkosh, Sun'n'Fun, and now with SAFE's Pilot Proficiency Project. Flying has been in my blood as long as I can remember, since my first solo at age 16 up until now. Instructing gives me the wonderful opportunity to share my passion with others, and keeps my own skill set sharp. I don't instruct because I have to, I do it because I love it!
