I am an Associate Director working within the ‘International Institutional Donor Assurance (IIDA) department at BDO. For the past 8 years, I have been involved in assurance activities for UN agencies such as UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP. However, my main involvement has been with the agencies, JU’s and granting authorities of the European Commission (EC). For the last 3 years, I have been one of the contract managers responsible for the running and delivery of the audits under the H2020 Research and Innovation Framework Contract. Under this contract we are responsible for auditing beneficiaries all over Europe participating in Research and Innovation programmes, therefore receiving EC funding. My role is in two parts 1) to ensure that the audits are performed efficiently, to a high standard and in a cost effective manner; and 2) to ensure our reports are of high quality and delivered on time to the client. My main competitive advantage as a contract manager is to have identified at an early stage that the job was basically one of project management where the subject matter is audit. The systems and procedures I have instituted are aimed at making sure the contract is run according to strict rules and monitoring. This has ensured timely delivery of audit reports at a reasonable cost and ensuring optimal fee recovery. One of the main perks of my job has been the significant travel it has offered. I have travelled mostly across Europe and have occasionally been afforded the opportunity to visit places outside of Europe too such as the US and Israel. I am an active member of the IIDA training group and have recently been responsible for the preparation of the technical part of a tender (we are still waiting for the results).
