About Torie Thayer

Urban & Regional Planner | Focused on Equitable Development, Community Engagement, and Sustainable Infrastructure I recently earned my Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Iowa, with a concentration in Housing and Community Development. With undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Communication Studies and a minor in Public Policy, I bring a multidisciplinary approach to planning valuing clear communication, policy alignment, and inclusive, community-driven outcomes. My recent work includes contributing to the Downtown Master Plan for the City of Oskaloosa, where I focused on multimodal transportation design, historic preservation, and creative placemaking strategies. I also co-developed a community engagement toolkit for the Morningside Glendale Neighborhood Association, offering ideas for public art, events, and outreach, alongside an ArcGIS StoryMap to visualize key neighborhood assets and initiatives. These projects reflect my passion for inclusive planning and empowering communities with accessible tools and resources. I’m experienced with ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, and Microsoft Office, and I enjoy using data visualization and storytelling to communicate planning goals and strategies clearly. Whether facilitating classroom discussions as a Teaching Assistant or presenting policy ideas to stakeholders, I strive to bring collaboration, clarity, and creativity to every aspect of my work.
