About Toya Covington

I am an experienced accounting professional with over 25 years of experience and strong exposure to healthcare, for profit and nonprofit accounting, and financial operations and analysis. I am highly familiar with accounts receivable analysis and management, and financial statement reporting and variance analysis. I have worked at Meharry Medical College in the Office of the Controller for seventeen years. Currently, in my Accounting Manager role, I exercise a calculated and methodical approach to problem solving. I am independently motivated, yet I appreciate team efforts and collaborate productively within groups. Additionally, I am knowledgeable in general ledger accounting and non-profit accounting with proficiency in balance sheet and accounts receivable management. Throughout my career, I have contributed to impacting Meharry’s business outcomes through effective organization, prioritization, and execution of key projects. I have exhibited strong organization, supervisory, and team building skills. My work has included preparing financial statements, budgets and forecasts, journal entries, reconciliations of accounts and year end close. Also, I work with many departments to improve efficiencies of all facets of the business, including: Financial Reporting, human resources, purchasing, IT, maintenance and operations. Some of my responsibilities include; supervising staff, performing daily/monthly/yearly audits, and preparing monthly/quarterly financial statements
