Background
About Toyloy Brown
I am the LSU mens' basketball and Southern athletics reporter for The Advocate/NOLA.com. I write gamers, enterprise and breaking news stories on each program. I previously was the high school sports reporter at the Knoxville News Sentinel. Along with writing breaking news and feature stories I record and edit video highlights and interviews from games I cover. As a journalism student at Quinnipiac University, I had leadership roles in four different student-run organizations. One organization is the Quinnipiac Chronicle, the school newspaper of Quinnipiac. At the Chronicle, I am the Managing Editor which means that I support the Opinion Editor, Sports Editor and the Quinnipiac Chronicle Podcast. This opportunity directly coincides with my major and my passion for writing.Another organization I led was the For the QUlture (pronounced culture) magazine where I was one of the founders and the executive editors as a junior and senior. The magazine highlighted the lives and efforts of students of color at Quinnipiac. In high school, I was the first student sports writer as a sophomore. I wrote weekly articles for the basketball, football, and lacrosse teams. I was awarded the Media Award at my high school graduation for my contributions to the athletics website, newspaper club, and film production club at my high school. Outside of writing, I've interned as a teen apprentice at the New Museum and a summer intern at the Bronx Documentary Center. Both places expanded my knowledge of different topics outside of sports and journalism. Being immersed in spaces that differ in my immediate interests have made me more well versed as an individual and more equipped to view sports topics from multiple perspectives.
