About Tracey Masterson

I began my career in social services work, thirty three years ago, providing skill development and training to developmentally challenged adults. After five years of working in a group home I became a Case Manager/Advocate for Community Integration Services with the Cornwall General Hospital. In this role, I developed strong communication and rapport building skills. I became experienced in crisis de-escalation and stabilization management as many of the individuals referred to the program were referred due to experiencing some form of crisis. Stabilization and resolution to the crisis’ required that I create an individualized service plan and facilitate its implementation. Additionally, while working collaboratively with the individuals requiring service, their family members and community agencies I acquired valuable teamwork and problem solving skills. It was shortly after my children began school that I began to note the impact a successful or unsuccessful day at school had on their sense of self worth and well being. Eager to be a part of creating a positive learning environment for my children and others I began volunteering in their school. While volunteering it became apparent to me that my skills in supporting individuals in crisis, identifying needs and formulating problem solving strategies could be highly beneficial to children severely struggling within the school community. Within the CDSBEO I have served as an EA and SSW. In these positions I have spent a robust amount of time working to help children learn their strengths, adapt/overcome mental health issues /special needs and develop a positive sense of self worth so that they could gain/regain their ability to enjoy living and learning. I look forward to other opportunities where my expertise in supporting children and families struggling with behavioral, emotional and social issues will have a meaningful impact.
