About Tracey McConnell

For nearly 40 years, Tracey has participated in community-based efforts that focus on early childhood development, education, nonprofit capacity-building, youth development, substance abuse prevention, health issues in tribal communities, and LGBTQ support services. As Community Development Director at the Verde Valley Sanctuary, Tracey embodies their mission to provide safety, services, and comfort to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Her role includes friend-raising, fundraising, marketing, and communications. Tracey’s passion is seen in her desire to help others grow personally and prosper, as evidenced by her ongoing involvement and leadership within agencies and coalitions that seek to address the needs of the most vulnerable individuals in our community. Numerous community service organizations across Arizona and Yavapai County know Tracey’s work. One example is MATForce, a countywide coalition established 18 years ago to build healthier communities by reducing the abuse of drugs and alcohol. As Project Director, Tracey led countywide community assessment forums, strategic planning sessions, and helped establish the organization’s countywide structure. And if that’s not all, from 2008 to 2011, Tracey, her son, and some neighbors galvanized her neighborhood, the Town of Chino Valley, and Yavapai County Flood Department to build a multi-million-dollar infrastructure to mitigate storm flooding. Volunteering with Unify Sedona, Tracey serves as a founder and Board Secretary. Unify Sedona creates opportunities for ALL members of the greater community (including LGBTQ+, black, brown, and indigenous groups) to gather and embrace our uniqueness, always recognizing that we are stronger together. They host events and support equality by providing a safe forum for conversation and mutual understanding. Tracey enjoys dining and dancing with her family, riding the local trails, racing in the sand dunes, as well as a good book and glass of red wine (or bubbly).
