About Tracey Roberts

Tracey Roberts teaches and writes in the areas of taxation, property and environmental law. Professor Roberts uses historical research, economic analysis, and tax policy and public finance tools to examine tax structures, environmental and land use regulation, and private governance systems. Her most recent articles have been published in the Northwestern University Law Review, the Washington and Lee Law Review, the University of California, Berkeley Ecology Law Quarterly, the Columbia Journal of Tax Law, the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law, The Pittsburgh Tax Review, and the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum. Her book, Tax Law and the Environment, coauthored with Roberta Mann, was published in 2018. She currently teaches Federal Income Taxation, Partnership Taxation, Corporate Taxation, Business Taxation, Tax Policy, Property, and Environmental Law, and Climate Change Law and Policy at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University. Professor Roberts has previously taught law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Seattle University, the University of Louisville, and the University of South Carolina. Before turning to academia, Roberts practiced for ten years in the area of commercial real estate and affordable housing, specializing in mixed-use real estate development and sustainable land use planning in Atlanta, Georgia and Denver, Colorado. During this period, she represented a number of nonprofit organizations, including the U.S. Green Building Council - Colorado Chapter, the Center for ReSource Development and the Boulder Tool Library. She also worked for Atlanta Legal Aid Society and Georgia Legal Services Program for four years, developing technology projects to expand access to justice throughout Georgia. She received her LL.M. in Taxation from New York University, her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, and her A.B. from Harvard University. She is also holds a post-graduate diploma in Theology and Religion from Oxford University.
